Southern Research CEO, John A. Secrist, Appointed To The Editorial Advisory Board of R&D Directions Magazine

Birmingham, ALA. (November 26, 2008) - Southern Research Institute, a not-for-profit organization that conducts basic and applied research in the areas of preclinical drug discovery, drug and vaccine development, advanced engineering, environmental and energy production, today announced that President and Chief Executive Officer John A. "Jack" Secrist III, Ph.D. has been named to the editorial advisory board of R&D Directions magazine.

"It is an honor to be chosen to serve on the editorial advisory board for R&D Directions and I am pleased to collaborate with other well-respected industry experts," Secrist said. "The pharmaceutical industry has faced considerable change during the past year and this change will continue as we head into 2009. I look forward to contributing to the publication as it follows these important developments."

R&D Directions, a Canon Communications publication, was established in 1995 and is written to enhance the practical knowledge of professionals working in the pharmaceutical research and development fields. As part of the newly formed editorial advisory board, Secrist will assist the editors in shaping the direction of the magazine's content by providing guidance and feedback. The formation of the advisory board coincides with a redesign of the publication.

The 11-member editorial advisory board for R&D Directions also includes Diana Anderson, Ph.D., CEO and president of D.I. Anderson International; Michael Butler, Ph.D. former chief scientific officer of Aptuit; Terri Cooper, Ph.D. national leader of the life sciences R&D practice of Deloitte Consulting; Tom Defay, Ph.D., portfolio director at AstraZeneca; Kapil Dhingra, M.D., former vice president and disease biology leader of oncology at Roche; Jeff Evelhoch, Ph.D. medical sciences executive director at Amgen; Frank Kilpatrick, president of Healthcare Communications Group; Ken Koblem, Ph.D. and vice president of basic research of Merck & Co.; Kirk McPoyle, vice president of business development of Acurian Inc.; and Stephanie Wells, corporate senior vice president at Charles River Laboratories.
