Clinical Pathology

Southern Research has more than 25 years of experience providing clinical pathology services to our clients. In addition to providing clinical pathology support for all types of studies, Southern Research serves as an outsourcing site for clinical pathology services (including hematology, clinical chemistry, bone marrow cytology, coagulation, urinalysis and more) for companies that do not have in-house capabilities.

Using a fully equipped automated laboratory with species-specific instrumentation validation, our highly trained and experienced Clinical Pathology group supports a full range of studies (efficacy, toxicology, phenotyping, etc.) involving a wide variety of animal species including: mouse, rat, cotton rat, hamster, rabbit, ferret, mini-pig, dog, and nonhuman primate. Southern Research capabilities include comprehensive clinical pathology services performed in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)-complaint conditions ranging from biosafety level 1 (BSL-1) through biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) containment. To facilitate data capture, consistency, and documentation, Instem's Provantis^TM data management system is utilized for capturing all clinical pathologic evaluations and generating tables and statistical tabulations.

Expert Staff/Comprehensive Capabilities

Led by a board-certified veterinary clinical pathologist, all members of the Clinical Pathology staff are certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology; additionally, the Department performs proficiency testing from the College of American Pathologists. Our highly trained medical laboratory technicians (MLTs) utilize state-of-the-art, GLP-validated equipment capable of high output with species-specific qualification of each instrument.
