Biography

Dr. Hobrath obtained a Ph.D. in computational chemistry in 1999 from Cleveland State University in a joint program with Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She received her postdoctoral training at Georgetown University and The University of Michigan. Her postdoctoral research primarily focused on discovery of new leads and lead optimization for the development of new treatments for cocaine addiction, schizophrenia, and Parkinson's disease. In addition to these, she was also involved in research projects on multiple sclerosis targets, protein kinases, and small molecule host-guest systems. Following postdoctoral training, Dr. Hobrath worked for a year as Senior Scientist at UCB Research.

Research Focus: Lead Discovery, Design, and Lead Optimization

Dr. Hobrath joined Southern Resarch in 2005 and is currently engaged in performing computational studies covering various aspects of lead discovery, design, and lead optimization. She is using computational methods/strategies such as protein modeling, structural and property analyses, conformational sampling, pharmacophore modeling, structure-activity relationship analysis, ligand docking, virtual screening, and data mining methods. In these studies, Dr. Hobrath applies various computational programs and molecular modeling packages, including: Schrodinger modules, DiscoveryStudio, InsightII, Cerius2; Sybyl, ActivityBase, Pipeline Pilot, Charmm, and others.
