Other Viruses

The category of other viruses includes highly transmissible viral pathogens that often cause severe and sometimes fatal disease. Specifically, this virus group causes non-influenza respiratory disease (rhino-, adeno-, corona, and paramyxoviruses), gastrointestinal disease (coxsackie, echo, entero-, and rotaviruses), and skin-related and other organ diseases (herpes virus).

Southern Research provides comprehensive in vitro and in vivo capabilities for these other viral pathogens to meet our clients' drug development needs. Our scientists collaborate with clients to provide research data focused on meeting requirements for registration of their drugs or vaccines. In addition to providing a range of drug discovery and development assays for these viruses, we also provide methods that support vaccine research.

Our diverse capabilities for the category of other viruses include:

In vitro evaluations

  • Agent detection and quantification
  • Drug toxicity testing
  • Drug activity testing
  • Drug combination - synergy/antagonism testing
  • Immune assays
  • Custom assay development
  • Animal model support assays
  • GLP methods

In vivo evaluations

  • Toxicity evaluations of drugs or vaccine components
  • Support for ADME/PK studies
  • Protocol design
  • Drug evaluations for herpes viruses and enteroviruses
  • Vaccine evaluations
  • New and/or modified model development
  • GLP methods
